The main objective of a root end filling material is to provide an apical seal that prevents the movement of bacteria and the diffusion of bacterial products from the root canal system into the periapical tissues. Henceforth, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the microleakage of root end filling materials.
Thirty extracted human single rooted teeth were used. They were decoronated and the canals were then prepared and obturated. Root end preparations were made and root end filling was placed. The root end filling materials tested were IRM, Fujj II LC, & MTA-Angelus.
The results showed that IRM root end fillings demonstrated more microleakage than Fuji II L C & MTA. There was no significant difference between Fuji II L C & MTA. Conclusions: Since in-vitro tests cannot simulate in-vivo conditions, further in-vivo studies are needed for the recommendation of MTA as an ideal root end filling material.
