Shade selection – An appraisal

Due to patient's increased attention to esthetic appearance, the need for getting a perfect shade match has become critical. Faithfully matching the optical properties of each layer increases the likelihood of a shade match and decreases the problem of metamerism. Visual selection with a prefabricated shade guide is the most popular and traditional method of shade selection in dentistry. The increased emphasis on dental esthetics in recent years has driven the search for a more accurate shade-replication procedure than the present methods provide.
