The purpose of this article is to provide tacit and explicit knowledge about the pathophysiology of Temporomandibular disorders. TMD is a clinical entity that presents itself in different clinical manifestations and at times it has been reffered to as definite chronic dental illness. The multifactorial origin of temporomandibular disorders has led to confusion about its etiology and treatment. There has been controversy about the term temporomandibular disorders as the continued use of term “temporomandibular disorders” no longer can be defended in light of the many scientific advances that have been made in this field. However yet it occupies a special seat in dentistry.
