Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate invitro the fracture resistance of tooth roots following canal preparation with K3 Endo, V-Taper, ProTaper rotary Ni-Ti instruments and a hand K-File. For this present study sixty extracted premolars having single root canal were selected. Samples were divided into four equal groups: -Group I-Hand K-File, Group II-ProTaper rotary file, Group III-K3 Endo rotary file, Group IV-V-Taper rotary file with master apical file size #25. The canals were obturated with Gutta percha using zinc oxide eugenol as a sealer. The fracture load was applied with a needle of tip diameter 1mm using universal instron testing machine. The results showed that the mean force required to fracture the teeth prepared with Hand K-Files was 16.38 KgF, ProTaper rotary files was 20.42 KgF, K3 Endo rotary files was 18.96 KgF and V-Taper rotary files was 23.40 KgF. The results were statistically analyzed.
