Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate existence of golden proportion, recurring esthetic dental proportion and golden percentage between the widths of maxillary anterior teeth in individuals with natural dentition having an esthetic smile

Anterior tooth images of 71 (female) subjects, viewed from the front and engaged in maximum smiling were recorded with digital photography under standardized condition Relationship between the anterior teeth and golden proportion, RED, golden percentage was analyzed.

The golden proportion was found to exist in 23.9% of perceived lateral to central incisor ratios and in 8.4% of the perceived canine to lateral incisor ratios, RED proportion between central and lateral incisors lie in the 69.6–69.8%range. However taking golden percentage in consideration central incisors represented 22%, lateral incisors 15% and canine 12% of the width of six maxillary anterior teeth from frontal view.

The golden proportion and RED was not found to exist between the perceived widths of maxillary anterior teeth. However golden percentage was constant in terms of relative tooth width.
