Guided bone regeneration is an accepted method successfully employed in dental practices to increase the volume of the host bone at sites chosen for implant placement. Various bone graft materials and membranes are used in guided bone regeneration. Bone replacement grafts provide a structural framework for clot development, maturation and remodeling that supports bone formation in osseous defects. A number of advancements have been made over the past 20 years in terms of membrane fabrication development. This article reviews various bone graft materials and membranes used in guided bone regeneration.
