The importance of beautiful smile is well established in today's society. Hence, various esthetic elements of smile must be incorporated during orthodontic treatment to achieve best results. This study aimed to evaluate smile characteristics and to compare age related changes of smile in subjects having orthognathic profile and well balanced face. The study was conducted on 60 subjects which were categorized into 2 groups depending on the age. Group I (15–20 years), 30 subjects with a mean age 17.46 years and Group II (24–29 years), 30 subjects with a mean age 27.26 years. Various smile traits were analyzed using clever ruler software. The data obtained was subjected to statistical analysis using SPSS version 21 software. The mean, standard deviation and p-value were calculated for each trait. Multiple comparisons among subgroups were done using the T-test & Mann Whitney test. Results concluded that transverse dimension of smile increases and vertical dimension of smile decreases with increasing age which is an important consideration in adult orthodontics.
