Labor pain may have adverse physiological and psychological consequences. Pregnant women commonly worry about the pain during labor and their reaction to that pain. Even most of the women are willing to undergo C-sections due to the fear of labor pains. To reduce pain during labor, there are both pharmacological and non pharmacological methods available, among which studies shows Lamaze method, a completely natural method to be very helpful technique for reducing the pain during labor.
The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of Lamaze method on pain during first stage of labor among parturient mothers.
Quantitative research approach and pre test post test design was used to collect data from 60 parturient mothers with first stage of labor through convenient sampling and allocated randomly in experimental (30) and control (30) groups.
Most of the experienced moderate to severe pain during the first stage of labor. Lamaze method was effective in reducing the level of pain during first stage of labor as the significant difference had been found in mean scores of 2nd observation between experimental (4.933 ± 1.659) and control (6.233 ± 1.135) with t value-3.541, and p (0.001). Level of labor pain was found to be significantly associated with the duration of first stage of labor.
Selected nursing interventions (upright positioning, slow-paced, modified paced & patterned breathing and abdominal massage) of Lamaze method were effective in reducing the level of labor pain during first stage of labor experimental group.
