Hardiness may play an important role in degree of alcohol use if an individual is having strong commitment, control and accept the challenges positively he may not indulge in alcohol abuse/misuse and may help in constraining it to social drinking.
To determine the relationship between hardiness and different levels of alcohol use.
Purposive sampling was used to collect the data sample comprise of 300 participants (100 social drinkers, 100 problem drinkers & 100 alcohol addicts) aged 25–45 years from Moga district. The participants were assessed by Alcohol Screening Data Questionnaire and Hardiness Scale which evaluates the Hardiness as commitment, control and challenge.
The Results showed the significant negative relation between increased level of alcohol use and hardiness as a whole for 3 groups but for problem drinkers commitment and control dimensions was not related significantly. In social drinkers and alcohol dependence the relationship existed across all dimensions of hardiness.
It can be concluded that hardiness and alcoholism both are significantly related to each other as the study showed significant relationship between increased level of alcohol use and hardiness as a whole for the three groups; Social Drinkers, Problem Drinkers and Alcohol Dependents.
