Abstract

Metabolic disorders play a major role in an individual's life crippling the abilities to function as a productive member of the family. They affect the ability of the cell to perform critical biochemical reactions that involve the processing or transport of proteins, carbohydrates, or lipids. Diabetes is a one such a major metabolic disorders. The etiology of diabetes in India is multifactorial and includes genetic factors coupled with environmental influences such as obesity associated with rising living standards, steady urban migration, and lifestyle changes. The studies that have been undertaken are also prone to potential error as the heterogeneity of the Indian population with respect to culture, ethnicity, and socio-economic conditions; mean that the extrapolation of regional Results may give inaccurate estimates for the whole country.

To assess the effectiveness of fenugreek on reducing blood sugar level among type 2 diabetic patients in community of Faridkot district.

Study design used is an experimental post test control design. Study settings include urban area of Faridkot. Study population is 60 type 2 diabetic patients. Random sampling technique was used. Digital glucometer was used to assess the blood sugar level and Socio demographic data sheet to collect baseline information.

Majority percentage of the type 2 diabetic patients ’blood sugar level lie in 204–280 mg/dl i.e. 53.3% in experimental group and same more patients are in control group i.e.36.7%. After Preassessment, Mean of fasting blood sugar level in experimental group is decreasing as compared to the control group. There is significant decrease in blood sugar level in experimental (fenugreek seed powder administered) group as compared to Control (not given fenugreek seed powder) group with p<0.05.

There is significant difference in the blood sugar level after administration of fenugreek seed powder. This reduction in the blood sugar level Results in judicious application of this intervention, backed by awareness and sensitivity to diabetes, on part of caregivers is likely to yield the best Results.
