Abstract

IMNCI (Integrated management ofneonatal and childhood illness) This is an innovative approach which was started in 1995 by WHO and UNICEF with the aim of introducing a comprehensive and timely management ofthe 5 most common causes ofill health and death among the under-fives.

The aim of the study was to assess the knowledge of B. Sc. Nursing Interns regarding Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness (IMNCI) and their association selected socio demographic variables.

Descriptive, Quantitative research approach was used to carry out study to assess the knowledge of B. Sc Nursing Interns regarding Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness (IMNCI)

Majority of study subjects i.el79 (89.5%) were fall in the age group of 20-22yrs, l97(98.5%) were female, l33(66.5%) were from Private College, Majority of study subjects 171 (85.5%) had information from class teaching and 143(71.5%) has not attended workshop or seminar. The adequate knowledge 129(64.5%) was higher in age group 20–22 years, adequate knowledge 142(71%) was higher in female, Private Colleges subjects i.e. 93(46.5%) having adequate knowledge. There is a significant relationship between source of information and knowledge of B. Sc Nursing Interns regarding Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness (IMNCI).

It is concluded that majority of the subjects were found to have adequate knowledge and only 57 subjects had inadequate knowledge regarding Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness (IMNCI). The mean knowledge score was 27.8 and standard deviation was ±6.7544.
