Afracture is a break in the anatomy ofa bone. The cast is used to rigidly protect an injured bone or joint It serves to hold the broken bone in proper alignment to prevent it from moving while it heals. If swelling occurs in a cast, the patient runs a high risk of complications like compartment syndromewhich may compromise the neurovascular integrity ofthe injured extremity.
The aim is to assess the effectiveness of self-instructional module on knowledge regarding prevention ofplaster cast complications among staffnurses.
A Quantitative approach and quasi experimental pre test post text design was used for the present study. Through convenient sampling, 35 subjects were selected in experimental and 35 in control group. Subjects in experimental group had received self-instructional module for 7 days.
The result of the study revealed that there was significant increase in level of knowledge of staff nurses after administration of self-instructional module on prevention of plaster cast complications. Paired t test was used to check the effectiveness of selfinstructional module and was found to be statistically significant at p<0.05.
It can be concluded that the self-instructional module regarding prevention of plaster cast complications was effective in increasing the knowledge level in experimental group.
