Knowledgeand practice among primi mothers regarding care of umbilical cord inselected hospital, Jaipur

Abstract

A mother has to regulate the child behavior, attitude, outlook and home environment in the family since these are the basic factors that influence the growth of children. Providing timely education in the form of intervention to the mothers could fill these gaps in knowledge.

The aim ofthe study was to assess the knowledge ofmothers regarding care of umbilical cord and assess the practice on the care of umbilical cord.

Quantitative research approach with cross sectional survey design was used. Convenience sampling was use to select the subjects which included a sample of 100 Primi mothers.

The findings of the study reveals that most of the subjects 38% in age group of 26–30 years, majority ofthe subjects were Hindu 44% and about 44% ofhousewives and about 52% of the subject were having monthly income 3000 & above and 48% are SSLC passed and 58% are having nuclear family. There is positive correlation between knowledge and practice score.

The study concluded that the high knowledge level increase the level higher of practice. It shows the significant relationship between age, religion, occupation, income, education and family size and knowledge and practice of the Primi mothers. The nurses can create a better awareness about umbilical card care among mother using different clinical teaching method.
