The term adolescence comes from the Latin word ‘adolescere’ which means growth towards maturity. It's a periods of transition between carefree childhood to responsible adulthood. This period covers puberty and goes towards adulthood. Menstruation is a normal physiological change in each girl's life. Menstrual hygiene is a responsible task which cannot be ignored any longer. The eager curiosity if guided properly will give them high standards of moral behavior and save them from emotional pitfalls and other disorders related to menstruation.
To assess the effectiveness of structured teaching program on menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls in selected schools, Punjab.
An experimental research approach was selected to do the study in which two groups of adolescents girls were taken from two schools. Sample size was 60 selected by simple randomization. Structure Teaching Programme (STP) was conducted on the experimental group and Pretest-post test done for both the groups. Analysis of data was done using descriptive and inferential statistics.
The pre test knowledge score was almost same i.e, below average knowledge in both the groups. Comparative pretest and posttest mean knowledge score was were higher in experimental than in the control group. All independent variables such as Age, Class, Religion, Education of Mother, Occupation of Mother, Type of Family and Source of Information were having significant relationship with knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene.
Structured teaching programme is found to be effective in improving the menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls.
