Drugs are the chemicals which affect the biological processes and act at specific site in the body. All chemicals other than food affect the living process. If the drug helps the body, it is medicine, however if the drug causes harmful effect on the body the drug is poison.
The aim of study was to assess the knowledge regarding drug compliance among the attendants of patients admitted in psychiatric ward of selected hospital Ludhiana, Punjab.
Quantitative research approach and Non-Experimental (descriptive) research design is used for the present study. A structured questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge regarding drug compliance among 100 attendants of psychiatric patients, selected by purposive sampling.
This study revealed that majority of attendants (51%) had below average knowledge regarding drug compliance. It was also found that there was a significant impact of age, education and mass media exposure on knowledge whereas type of family, monthly income and residential area had no impact on knowledge regarding drug-compliance.
The knowledge of attendants regarding drug-compliance is inadequate and there is a need to educate the attendants of mentally ill patients regarding good drug compliance by means of health talk, pamphlets and guidelines being made available in wards and O.P.D.
