Breast engorgement is also a major problem that can occur among postnatal mothers. Breast engorgement occurs in 72% to 85% of women and commonly occurs within 3 to 6 days after delivery. The milk often does not flow easily, and it may be difficult for the infant to attach the breast for suckle until the swelling is reduced. This will inhibit the development of successful breast feeding, leading to early breast feeding cessation
To assess the effectiveness of warm compression on breast engorgement among postnatal mothers admitted in Civil Hospital Ludhiana.
A quasi experimental study was carried out to assess the effectiveness of warm compression on breast engorgement among postnatal mothers. Self structured observational checklist was used for collection of data from subjects. Purposive sampling technique was used to collect the data from 60 postnatal mothers.
There is statistically significant effect of warm compression on breast engorgement among postnatal mothers. It was found that there was statistically significant relationship of education status of mother, area of residence, gravida, mode of delivery and frequency of breast feeding.
Study concludes that warm compressions have significant effect on breast Engorgement in experimental group.
