Study habits are fundamental to school or college success as there is direct relationship between study habits and academic achievement.
To explore study habits among GNM students.
Study setting was Desh Bhagat University School of Nursing, Mandi Gobindgarh by adopting an exploratory research design. A sample of 60 GNM students was drawn by simple random sampling technique (Lottery method) and standardized Study Habit Inventory (SHI) constructed by B.V. Patel was used to collect data.
Results of the present study revealed that study habits of students were satisfactory. Further, no significant difference was found in the study habits between boys and girls whereas students who were residing in nuclear and joint family differ significantly from each other in two dimensions of study habits as: Home environment & Planning and Habit of Concentration followed by students living in hostels and day scholars differ significantly from each other in three dimensions of study habits as: Home environment & Planning, Habits & Attitude and College environment. This paper has a scope for university faculty, parents and all stakeholders in the process of education.
The findings concluded that majority of subjects were having normal or satisfactory study habits. Thus, there is need to improve study habits of students through various strategies such as counselling sessions etc.
