Abstract

As many as 50 pink pigmented facultative methylotrophs (PPFM) isolates were obtained from Coleus from different locations. All isolates were Gram negative, rod shaped (0.6 -1.0 x 1.0–1.5 μm.). The colonies were pink colored and showed positive results for oxidase, urease and catalase. All isolates utilized different carbon sources viz., glucose, glycerol, tartarate and acetate. The highest indole acetic acid production was recorded in PPFM 36 and PPFM 50 (29.97 μg ml−1), while GA in PPFM 14 (59.13μgml−1) and Pirelease was maximum in PPFM 138 (10.07%).
