Heterosis for yieldand its components in sesame, (Sesamum indicum L.)

A study on hybrid vigour was carried out in sesame through diallel analysis for yield and its components in sesame. Seven genotypes were crossed in a diallel fashion, including reciprocals, to obtain 42 hybrids. Out of these, 23 showed significant and positive heterosis over their MP value,16 over corresponding better parent value, 17 over commercial check variety DSS-9 and 12 over commercial check variety CO-1 value for Seed yield. The hybrid combination Dhauri Local x DSS-9, DSS-9 x Dhauri Local exhibited significant positive heterosis for seed yield per plant.
