Rainfall based cropping pattern for Osmanabad district (M.S.)

Abstract

Mean annual rainfall of Osmanabad district (Maharashtra State) is within the range 550–750 mm showing the inter taluka variation. The frequency of deficit year is higher in Kalamb and Paranda talukas. In shallow to medium soils the crops suggested for cultivation are Linseed, safflower, sunflower, sorghum, gram, mustard; while in medium to deep soil they are sorghum, Gram, Safflower, Sunflower, Pea and Wheat. Horticultural fruit crops (Ber, Custard apple, Guave, Sapota,Pomogranate) medicinal plants (Tikhadi, Ritha, Shikekai, Ashwagandha, Shatawari, Sonamukhi), Floriculture crops (rose, marigold, chrysanthemum, Astar), vegetables (chilli, ladies finger, pea, tomato, Brinjal, cucumber, Bitter guard, fenugreek, Spinach, Radish, onion, Garlic, Indian bean, pigenpea, cluster bean, French bean, carrot) can also be cultivated.
