A cross was made between E-8 (phyllody susceptible) and Tamil Nadu Local (phyllody resistant) cultivars of sesame, during kharif season of 2010 to study inheritance pattern of phyllody resistance. The F1 and F2 generations were raised in net house during kharif seasons of 2007 and 2008 respectively. Screening of F3 families, against phyllody disease, under field condition during kharif season of 2009 showed that phyllody resistance was governed by two dominant genes exhibiting complementary gene action. Further screening of F4 families during 2010 confirmed the findings.
