Productivity of oat (Avena sativa) under the influence of cuttingmanagement and nitrogen application

Abstract

Oat (Avena sativa L.), without cutting (C0) increased seed yield over cutting at 30 and 45 days after sowing. On the other hand, significantly higher green fodder yield (143.8 q/ha) was obtained when the foliage was cut at 45 days after sowing. Application of nitrogen in three equal split doses of 40 kg/ha gave significantly higher seed (21.5 q/ha) and straw (100.2 q/ha) yields, which were at par with three splits (60 + 30 + 30), whereas, green fodder yield (122.6 t/ha) was significantly higher when nitrogen was applied in two equal splits. To achieve higher productivity of oat, its cultivation without cutting with three splits of nitrogen is most beneficial.
