Performance of various grape wine varieties on yield and fruit quality attributes

Twelve wine grape (Vitis vinifera L.) cultivars were evaluated for yield potential and fruit quality parameters. Significantly maximum yield were recorded in Chenin Blanc (4.03 Kg/vine; 8.96 MT/ha) followed by Syrah (3.78 Kg/vine; 8.39 MT/ha). However, the number of bunches per vine were highest in Ugni Blanc (35.33) followed by Syrah (34.33). The poor performance in respect to yield components was recorded in Pint Meunier (1.48 Kg/vine: 3.29 MT/ha) and Viognier (1.73 Kg/vine; 3.85 MT/ha). Maximum T.S.S. (22.30° Brix) was recorded in Grenache, followed by Chardonnay (21.90° Brix).The maximum acidity (0.76%)was recorded in Pinot Meunier which was at par with Grenache (0.75%). The varieties Cabernat Sauvignon, Cabernat franc and Syrah, and Chenin Blanc and Ugni Blanc were found suitable for commercial growing.
