The study was conducted involving four cytoplasmic male sterile and ten restorer lines with the objective of identifying CGMS lines with better out crossing. There was marked variation in outcrossing rate of CGMS lines ranging from 12.3% (IR-68888A) to 34.0% (IR-79156A). The CGMS line IR-79156A recorded highest percent of seed set across all of the restorer lines (34.0%) followed by IR-58025A (21.4%), IR-68897A (20.6%) and IR-68888A (12.3%). The differential response of CGMS lines for outcrossing was due to differences in morphological characters and floral traits like plant height, panicle length, panicle exertion rate and total number of spikelets per panicle.
