Abstract

Pollen viability studies on different staining methods viz., acetocarmine, FDA and 1% TTC were carried out in Indian mustard (Brassica juncea). The results differed significantly among the methods; acetocarmine recorded 74.47% pollen viability, followed by 42.42% and 20.15% by fluorescein diacetate (FDA) and triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC) methods respectively. Pollen grains showed maximum viability on the day of stigma exertion (55.87%), which reduced to 52.21, 50.25, 36.26, and 34.07% after one, two, three and four days of stigma exertion, respectively.
