Abstract

The magnitude of standard heterosis was high for seed yield/plant (111.0%), number of effective branches/plant (283.5%) and number of capsule/plant (141.0%). The hybrid AT 130 x GT 3 emerged out as with high heterosis for seed yield and its components. The variance due to specific combining ability was predominant for seed yield. While, the variance due to general combining ability was predominat for 1000-seed weight and oil content. Sesame cultivars GT 1, RMT 93 and GT 3 were best general combiners for seed yield. The hybrid, AT 130 x GT 3, Dros 6B x GT 2 and Vinayak x GT 10 emerged as the best specific combiner for seed yield and its components.
