Biorational pest management in mango

Abstract

Biorational pest management proved most effective as indicated by lowest population of hopper (3.87, 2.93 and 3.40/twig or panicle), thrips (5.58, 4.50 and 5.04/twig or panicle), leaf gall midge oriented leaf damage (11.70, 10.33 and 11.02%), leaf webber oriented webbing (2.18, 2.63 and 2.41/tree) and fruit fly oriented fruit infestation (6.37, 7.15 and 6.76%) in 2009–10, 2010–11 and pooled results, respectively. Next in the order of effectiveness were entomopathogens against hopper (4.85), thrips (6.92), leaf gall midge (16.92), leaf webber (3.20) and fruit fly (9.52). The treatment with botanicals resulted in significantly higher hopper (6.33), thrips (9.63), leaf gall midge damage (21.78), leaf webber (4.33) and fruit fly (13.67) as compared to the treatments of NPM and entomopathogens. The overall effectiveness of various treatments based was: NPM >Entomopathogens > Botanicals > Control.
