The present study was conducted to characterize an Indira Sona hybrid from Chhattisgarh State. The morphological traits and grain quality characters studied were days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, tillering ability, panicle length, spikelets panicle1, dehulled grain length, dehulled grain width, length/breadth, aroma, alkali value, amylose content, grain chalkiness, grain type, milling percentage, head rice percentage, 1,000-grain weight and grain yield. For molecular characterization, SSR markers were used to analyze the polymorphic banding pattern. Eight microsatellite markers exhibited polymorphic banding pattern between the parental lines. The morpho-molecular characterization can be used for identification and purity testing.
