Abstract

The present investigation includes chemo profiling of medicinally important plant Simarouba glauca D.C. from the family Simaroubaceae. The leaves and bark of Simarouba have long been used in tropics as natural medicine. Simarouba bark is used as an effective treatment for fever, malaria, chikun guni and diarrhoea and dysentery, as a haemostatic agent to stop bleeding and as a tonic, intestinal parasites indigestion and anemia. To give the scientific base of this medicinal uses the present investigation was carried out Plant extracts were prepared in various organic solvents according to polarity i.e. petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, acetone, ethanol, methanol, rectified spirit and water. The chemoprofiling was carried out and presence of important bioactive compounds responsible for the healing various ailments was investigated.
