A field experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2010–11, at Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, Dist. Ahmednagar to study response of irrigation frequencies on yield and quality of chickpea.Significantly more grain yield (32.95 q ha−1) was obtained when three irrigations were given, first at branching, second at flowering and third irrigation at pod formation stage. The variety Digvijay gave maximum yield (28.97 q ha−1) followed by Vijay (28.42 qha−1) due to drought tolerance mechanism in both the varieties.The interaction effect of irrigation frequencies and varieties showed higheryield in the treatment combinations of two irrigations,(first at branching and second at flowering stage) in Digvijay (35.60q ha−1) and Vijay (33.22 q ha−1) varieties while three irrigations, first at branching, second at flowering and third irrigation at pod formation stage in Vishal variety (36.12qha−1). The protein content in chickpea variety Digvijay was maximum (23.55%) when it wasirrigated at branching and flowering stage.
