The use of herbicides like imazethapyr 100 g/ha at 20 DAS, fluazifop-pbutyl 100 to 167 g ai/ha 20 DAS and quizalofop-p-ethyl 50 g/ha reduced soil microbial population at 30 DAS, while it was higher in other herbicide applied plots than un-weeded control due to degradation of the herbicides and utilization of carbon in them as substrate for their growth. Fluazifop-p-butyl at 167 to 335 kg ai/ha did not show any residual effect on germination, root length, shoot length, number of leaf, root weight, shoot weight and leaf weight of succeeding finger millet crop, raised after 155 days of herbicide application to previous groundnut crop.
