Abstract

Forty eight fungal strains were screened for their ability to produce pectinases under in vitro plate assay. Ten isolates had a potency index above 3.0, while eighteen isolates had a potency index ranging from 2.0–3.0 and twenty had potency values less than 2.0. The secondary screening of ten selected isolates for polygalacturonase and pectin lyase enzyme production showed DLP51 as the most efficient isolate when compared to the reference strain Aspergillus niger MTCC1344.
