Induced mutagenesis in okra, Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) moench

Abstract

The investigations on the induced mutagenesis were carried out in okra variety Parbhani Kranti. The mutagens used were gamma rays (at 15, 30, 45 and 60 kR) and ethyl methane sulphonate (at 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0%). Different doses of mutagens induced variation for different characters. Lower and middle doses of mutagens induced desirable variability than higher doses.Gamma rays was found to be the best mutagen for early flowering, fruit length, number of fruits per plant, total yield per plant and number of seeds per fruit.
