An investigation was conducted on 1372 Karan Fries cows maintained at NDRI, Karnal to study the effect of non-genetic factors on milk production performance. The data obtained from 1985–2000 were classified on the basis of three genetic groups, eight periods and four seasons. The overall least squares mean values for AFC, FL305DY, FLTMY, FLL, FDP, FCI, MY/FLL and MY/FCI were 957.14 ± 30.38 days, 3370.06 ± 153.16 Kg, 4100 ± 149.67 Kg, 352.03 ± 11.91 days, 79.96 ± 7.21 days, 472.145 ± 12.99 days, 11.438 ± 0.336 kg and 9.82 ± 0.27 kg, respectively. Genetic groups had significant effect on AFC, FL305DMY, FLTMY, MY/FLL and MY/FCI. The effect of season was significant (P≤0.05) on the first lactation total milk yield. The highest FLTMY was observed in animals calved during winter season (4203.94±165.19), whereas lowest for those calved during rainy season(3839.93±174.10). Similarly, period of calving showed highly significant effect on FL305DMY, FLTMY, FCI, MY/FLL, and MY/FCI. The significant effect of various non genetic factors revealed the need of better management practices to ameliorate the effect of tropical climate.
