Genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance foryield and yield attributes in yard-long bean (Vigna unguiculata subsp. Sesquipedalis [L.] Verde.)

Fourty four diverse genotypes of yard long bean (Vigna unguiculata subsp. Sesquipedalis [L.] Verde.) were evaluated for yield and yield related characters. For this purpose a field experiment was undertaken in randomized block design with three replications during the year 2011–12. The analysis of variance revealed significant differences among varieties for all the characters studied. High genotypic coefficient of variance, heritability in broad sense and genetic advance estimated for yield, pods per plant, pod length, pod weight, pod protein, days to first harvest indicated good scope for their improvement through selection.
