Abstract

The impact of seed borne fungal pathogens on seed germination was determined by Standard blotter and rolled paper towel method in black gram. Association of eight fungi belonging to six genera viz., Aspergillus flavus, A. niger, Chaetomium globosum, Curvularia lunata, Fusarium oxysporum, F. semitectum, Macrophomina phaseolina, Pencillium spp., and Rhizopus spp were recorded in untreated seed, whereas treated seed showed association of Aspergillus flavus, Curvularia lunata, Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium semitectum, Macrophomina phaseolina and Penicillium spp Maximum colonization of M. phaseolina was observed to seed coat followed by cotyledon. Reduction in seed borne fungi and increased seed germination, shoot-root length and seedling vigour index were recorded by seed treatment with Thiram + carbendazim (2:1).
