Milk yield in Gir triple cross cows

A total of 1182 lactation records of 410 Gir triple cross cows maintained at Research Cum Development Project on Cattle, MPKV, Rahuri over a period of 35 years (1977–2011) were analyzed to study the effect of period, season, lactation order and age group at first calving, on lactation milk yield. The least squares mean of lactation milk yield was 3411.83 ± 41.86 kg. Period of calving and lactation order significantly affected lactation milk yield. However, the effect of season of calving on lactation milk yield was not significant. Age group at first calving significantly affected lactation milk yield.
