Physico-chemical properties of soils from Lohara tahsil of Osmanabad district, Maharashtra state

Abstract

Among the 180 soil samples collected from 30 villages of Lohara tahsil during the year 2011–12, 37% were grouped as Vertisols, while 40 and 23% as Inceptisol and Entisols, respectively. These soil samples were analyzed for physco chemical properties. Average particle density, bulk density and porosity of Vertisol soil were 2.49 gcc−1, 1.52 and 39.04%, Inceptisol soils were 2.48 gcc−1, 1.52 gcc−1, and 38.66% and Entisol soils were 2.51 gcc−1, 1.49 gcc−1, and 39.96% respectively The soil colour was black, dark brown and very dark brown in Vertisol, Inceptisol and Entisols, respectively. The soils under study were alkaline in reaction, within safe limit of electrical conductivity and these soils were calcareous in nature and low to medium in organic carbon content.
