Abstract

Hundred genotypes of bird of paradise (Strelitzia reginae) were evaluated for genetic variability in vegetative parameters. Phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was higher than genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) for all of the characters studied. However, low differences between PCV and GCV were observed for plant height and stem girth during 2011 and 2012, while for leaf width and number of leaves per plant during the year 2012. High heritability with high genetic advance as per cent of mean was observed for plant height, stem girth, leaf length, leaf width and number of leaves per plant during both the years (2011 and 2012).
