Understanding the impact of the organic soil amendment on the process of mineralization is a vital aspect of agronomy. Laboratory incubation experiments were conducted, during which, mature compost obtained from flower market wastes, employing fungal inoculum to accelerate the process of degradation, was incorporated in tropical red soil and the pattern of its mineralization was studied. The soil pH showed slight decrease while organic carbon, nitrogen and other nutrients increased due to the addition of compost, in comparison to the control. The maximum efflux of carbon dioxide was recorded during first seven days after incorporation of compost. The compost demonstrated steady rate of decomposition.
