Abstract

Present study comprised a line x tester analysis involving 3 lines and 6 testers for exploitation of heterosis and assessing best combiners. Combining ability studies revealed the presence of significant differences due to lines, testers and line x testers, indicating the presence of variability. Considering the general combining ability effects of parents, female AKMS 40A and male AKR 496 were good general combiners for grain yield and the female AKMS 14A and male AKR 496 and AKR 498 were good general combiners for earliness. The crosses AKMS 40A X AKR 497, AKMS 27A X AKR 456 and AKMS 14A X AKR 496 were identified for improving grain yield and crosses AKMS 40A X AKR 493, AKMS 40A X AKR 494, AKMS 27A X AKR 493 and AKMS 27A X AKR 497 were selected for breeding earliness.
