Abstract

Plant regeneration through micro-propagation is an alternative in vitro plant production of reaserch for large scale and rapid plant propagation. Sapindus emarginatus vahl is commonly known as soap nut tree. It has very high economic and medicinal values in saponin industry and is also being used for important medicinal properties. Sapindus seeds have hard seed coat due to which these became physically dormant. Due to these limitations, the conventional methods of vegetative propagation of this species were proved very difficult. Therefore, an alternate in vitro method of propagation, micropropagation technique had been developed from leaf explants of Sapindus emarginatus Vahl employing auxin such as cytokinin BAP/Kn and TDZ which is unique in itself as the latex posses a threat for tissue culture.
