Histopathological studies on the intestine of the Mastacembelus armatus parasitized bytrematode, Genarchopsis paithanensis N.SP.

The trematode parasite, Genarchopsis paithanensis n.sp. was found to infect intestine of freshwater fish, Mastacembelus armatus. Histopathological studies were undertaken to assess the extent of damage caused by the parasite. Genarchopsis paithanensis N.sp. damaged the mucus and sub mucus layer, the parasite was found to be approaching to the intestinal villi. Other histological changes included destruction and extrusion of the intestinal villi, inflammary fibrosis associated with hyperplasia and mataplasia in mucus membrane. In the mucosa and sub mucosa layer the parasite also caused dilation of blood vassels.
