Performance of various genotypes of guava (Psidium guajava L.)

Abstract

Highest height of plant (4.58 m) was recorded in red fleshed genotype GRS4 followed by L-49 (3.97 m). Significant variation was found for this trait among the genotypes of guava. The highest value for tree volume was observed for genotype L-49 (54.71 m3) which was at par with genotypes GRS4 (54.33 m3), and GWS6 (51.93m3). The minimum days required for maturity were recorded in red fleshed genotype GRS4 (112.00), followed by GRS2 (115.33). Maximum length and width of leaf (14.03cm, 6.23cm) was recorded in genotype GWS6, it was at par to genotype GWS5 (13.60 cm, 6.07 cm respectively Maximum length of petiole (1.20cm) was recorded in genotype GWSs, followed by genotype GWS5 (1.10 cm). The maximum leaf area (83.59 cm2) was recorded in genotype GWS6 followed by genotype GWS5 (77.80 cm2). Significant differences were observed among the genotypes for this trait. The genotype GWS6 recorded highest weight of fruit (221.71 g), which was at par with genotype L-49 (179.98 g). The highest fruit yield (kg/plant) and yield (Mt/ha) was recorded in case ofred fleshed genotype GRS4 (421.00 fruits/tree, 61.88 kg/tree; 24.75 Mt/ha), followed by genotype L-49 (255.67 fruits/tree, 55.60 kg/tree; 22.23 Mt/ha respectively)
