Abstract

Twenty five half-sib families were grown in randomized block design during rabi 2010–11 along with check varieties Bhima and A1. The expected genetic advance expressed as per cent of population mean at 20 per cent was high for seed yield per plant (41.40). The expected genetic advance per cent over Bhima at 20 per cent selection intensity was high for seed yield per plant (31.40). In safflower, number of seeds per capitulum was positively and significantly correlated with seed yield per plant. The days to 50% flowering, number of primary branches per plant, number of capitula per plant, and 100 seed weight (g) had non-significant correlation with seed yield per plant indicating breaking of linkages by recurrent selection method. Two half-sib families i.e. (HS-61 and HS-57) were significantly superior over Bhima and A1.
