Abstract

Aquatic Macrophytes are angiospermic plants which have an amazing capacity to absorb various metals from soil. This capacity plays an important role in controlling water pollution and can be utilize in bio-remdiation. In the present study the absorption of some metals from polluted zones of Godavari river at Nanded was determined by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The plant species selected were Ipomea camea sub sps. fistulosa, Altemethera pungens and Indigofera glandulosa. It was observed that these plants can absorb lead (Pb), Zinc (Zn), Mercury (Hg), Arsenic (AS) and copper (Cu) in substantial quantity so they can play important role in bioremediation process of a polluted area.
