Fertility restoration of wild abortive and kalinga cytoplasmic male sterility in rice (Oryzasativa L.)

Abstract

Genetics of fertility restoration in four restorer lines viz., TOX 981-11-23, R1949-1196-2-1 and IR72164-352-2-5-5 were studied in “Wild Abortive” and Kalinga cytoplasmic male sterility system using cytoplasmic male sterile line, IR58025A and CRMS31A. Evaluation of fertility restoration in the plants of F2 generation showed monogenic 3 fertile: 1 sterile segregation ratio and CRMS31Ax IR72164-352-2-5-5 showed a segregating ratio of 9 fertile: 7 sterile, indicating digenicinheritance with complementary gene action. It can be concluded that the presence of complementary genes and dominant monogenic gene in IR72164-352-2-5-5 restorer line govern fertility restoration in the both WA and Kalinga CMS system.
