Evaluation of insecticides against sucking pests in Bt transgenic cotton

Abstract

Afield experiment was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of insecticides against major sucking pests of Bt cotton during kharif season of 2012–13. The foliar applications of insecticides were evaluated against aphids, jassids, thrips and white fly. The results revealed that Fipronil 5 SC @ 0.02% was most effective against these pests followed by imidacloprid 30.5 SC @ 0.005% and diafenthiuron 50 WP @ 0.08%. Diafenthiuron 50 WP @ 0.08% gave best control for white fly. Highest yield of seed cotton was obtained due to the application of Fipronil 5 SC @ 0.02% followed by imidacloprid 30.5 SC @ 0.005%, and diafenthiuron 50 WP @ 0.08%. It was concluded that Fipronil 5 SC @ 0.02% was most effective treatment against all sucking pests, followed by imidacloprid 30.5 SC @ 0.005% and diafenthiuron 50 WP @ 0.08%.
