Vegetative flush and flowering in mango (Mangifera indica L.) cultivars in konkan region of Maharashtra state

Abstract

In the month of June, maximum vegetative flush (76.25 per cent) was recorded in Pairi variety of mango followed by Kesar (67.50 per cent) and Alphonso (65.00 per cent). Minimum vegetative flush (27.50 per cent) was reported in Ratna variety. Maximum flowering (74.00 per cent) was recorded in Kesar variety. The longest panicle (37.50 cm) was observed in Ratna variety which was at par with pairi variety. The shortest panicle was in Sindhu variety. The highest panicle diameter (27.60 cm) was in Pairi variety and lowest panicle diameter was in Alphonso variety. The highest percentage of perfect flowers (28.35%) were reported in Sindhu variety, while in Alphonso variety only 10.38 per cent perfect flowers were noticed. The fruit set was maximum in Sindhu variety (2.08%) followed by Kesar (1.80%). The lowest fruit set was in Pairi (0.93%) which was at par with Alphonso (0.99%). The average weight of fruit was maximum (321.00 g) in Ratna variety. The highest fruit yield (43.34 kg) was recorded in Kesar variety followed by Alphonso.
