Abstract

Twenty two promising tomato genotypes were evaluated for yield and processing qualities. The genotype RIT8P3, RIIIT9P5, RIIIT9P2, Pusa Early Dwarf, RIIIT8P3 and Bhagyashree were found suitable for processing into juice, puree and other products. Physical characters of the fruits viz., size, shape, colour, pericarp thickness, number of locules, juice percentage were better in the genotypes RIT8P3, RIIIT9P5, RIT9P2, RIT8P1, RIIIT8P3. The genotypes RIT8P3 was with suitable biochemical characters viz., TSS, acidity, sugars, total sugars to acid ratio, lycopene content and ascorbic acid content. The yield potential of genotype RIT8P3 was comparatively low, however, on the basis of processing qualities, it ranked first among twenty two genotypes investigated, which was followed by genotypes RIIIT8P2, RIIT8P3, Bhagyashree, RIT9P1, RIIKT9/8 and RIIT8P4. On the basis of processing qualities the genotype RIT8P3 was found to be superior, followed by RIT9P1 and RIIT8P4.
